There are two primary metrics used to determine a Scopus journal's quartile ranking.
SJR is a prestige metric based on the idea that not all citations are equal. It considers the subject field, quality, and reputation of the citing journal. Journals are ranked by SJR score and divided into four quartiles within their subject category.
Explore SCImagoCiteScore is Elsevier's metric that measures the average citations received per document published in a journal over a four-year window. It provides a comprehensive view of a journal's impact and is used alongside SJR to determine quartile rankings in Scopus.

For a master's thesis, Q3–Q4 journals are typically sufficient. They offer a balance between accessibility and academic credibility, allowing you to meet graduation requirements without the intense competition of higher quartiles.
